Recraft is an AI image tool that generates and edits both raster images and true vector graphics (SVG). That vector side is what sets it apart for designers: you can prompt for a logo, icon set or illustration and get something you can scale and edit, not just a flat picture.
It runs as Recraft Studio, a creative workspace with several image models, and as a REST API for developers. The site also describes a hosted MCP server so AI agents can call it.
How it works
Write a prompt in Recraft Studio and pick a model and output type, raster or vector.
Optionally lock in a look: the V4 Styles model takes 1 to 10 reference images with no training step, so a set of images can stay on brand.
Refine the result with the editing tools, such as remove background, erase region, upscale, remix, inpainting and outpainting.
Export the image, or run the same operations from your own code through the API.
Pros and cons
Pros
Native vector (SVG) generation, plus a vectorize tool for existing images.
Style consistency from reference images without training anything.
Clear per-image API pricing, from about $0.007 per image on the fastest model.
Cons
Studio plan prices are not spelled out in Recraft’s API documentation, so check the pricing page before committing.
The model and tool lineup changes often, and some editing operations are tied to specific model versions.
It is a design and image tool, not a general assistant.
